The Audi TT is this German automobile manufacturer’s smallest two door vehicle, but it is still a potent little pocket rocket. It manages to outstrip most of its competitors and gives even cars like the Porsche Boxster a run for its money, which is saying something!

The TT was introduced to the world way back in 1995 and continues to be lucrative choice for many a keen driver on a budget.

Audi has come a long way since the first generation TT. The company has been tweaking, modifying and improving on practically every aspect and detail of the car for the past 22 years. This newest Audi TT is underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s latest platform architecture, called the MQB platform. This new platform is used by almost all new VW Group vehicle, regardless of body style.

Audi TT: New Car Personality

The company has also worked on giving the TT a totally new persona. While a few years ago the TT was a cute as a button, round little car, this new one is different in every possible way. Gone are the curves, which have been replaced by chiselled angles and sharp lines. This gives the new TT a more aggressive and powerful poise. Details such as the LED headlight and tail lamp clusters only add to the car’s purposeful stance.

Audi TT Powertrain

Under the hood of the new Audi TT lives a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine that is rated for 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This motor is capable of returning a mileage figure of 23 mpg on city roads and 30 mpg on the highways. For those who desire even more power in their ride, Audi also has the TTS on sale, in which the engine has been tuned to produce a higher power output of 292 hp. The torque levels have been boosted in the TTS as well, to 280 lb-ft. Although its highway fuel economy has dropped to 27 mpg, its economy in the city remains identical to the more sedate TT. Due to Audi’s adaptive suspension and the Quattro 4WD system, the car is a joy to drive.

Audi Virtual Cockpit System

This was one of the first vehicles to debut Audi’s replacement for the traditional instrument cluster that featured analogue dials, a piece of technology that Audi calls the Virtual Cockpit system. It is basically a large 12.3 inch digital display that shows all the dials using superbly high resolution graphics, and the whole thing looks fantastically space age. The new Audi TT is also packed to the hilt with every gadget and gizmo that a vehicle in its segment is expected to have.
