Chevrolet Traverse Review: Bold New Look

The Chevrolet Traverse, in many ways, is a complete package. It is a large SUV that is spacious enough to ferry around three rows worth of people comfortably, and it’s got its fair share of features and equipment.

8 passengers and a sizeable chunk of luggage can be carted around with ease in this Chevy, and if the middle and last row of seats are folded away, the boot capacity swells to a number that is practically unrivalled in its segment.

Both the FWD and 4WD versions of the Chevrolet Traverse are available on sale with their own set of trim levels. Equipment levels change depending on the trim level you purchase, but the top end variant comes standard with LED headlights and a 10 speaker sound system from Bose.

Powertrain

Under the Traverse’s hood is a 3.6 liter V6 motor that pumps out 310 hp and 266 lb. ft. of torque. This is currently the only engine that Chevy provides for this SUV, and although it is powerful, it is rather efficient as well, thanks to fuel saving features such as a start-stop mechanism that automatically turns the engine off whenever the car comes to a standstill. This feature also turns the engine back on by itself the moment the throttle pedal is pressed.

Buyers can specify their Chevy Traverse with either front wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the power is channelled to the wheels via a 9 speed automatic transmission. New owners also have the option of choosing between 18 and 20 inch alloy rims. If you go in for the front wheel drive version, Chevy claims that you will get 18 mpg on city roads and 27 mpg on the highways. These figures drop slightly to 17 mpg and 25 mpg respectively if you purchase the AWD version of the Traverse.

Safety

As part of safety, the Chevy Traverse comes with heated wing mirrors, automatic low speed forward braking, collision alert, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, lane keeping assist, LED daytime running lamps, a reversing camera, a rear wash/wipe system, pedestrian detection, LATCH child seat anchors, a surround view camera that helps while parking the vehicle and tyre pressure monitoring.

Using the key fob, the vehicle’s owner can put the car into a dedicated teen driver mode that restricts the car’s top speed and enables certain other additional safety parameters.
