Citroen Stock Photos – Hatchbacks, Crossovers, MPVs, and Electric Cars

Citroen is a French car maker that epitomises the flamboyant French design language seen in cars that have their origins from this country. Apart from a very few models in the company history, nearly every single car that has rolled out of Citroen stables has broken away from conventional automotive design rules. The fresh take on cars that Citroen is known for also extends to the interior of their vehicles. The company is also renowned for their range of sporty DS-badged cars, which have always given Citroen rivals a run for their money.

Citroen is fast approaching their centenary as the company came into existence in the year 1919.

Citroen is headquartered in Saint-Ouen, in the suburbs of Paris, France. The company made waves in 1934 when it introduced a car that was the first to be mass produced with features that are commonplace today, such as independent suspension on all four wheels and front wheel drive.

In later years, Citroen continued to be a trailblazer in automotive innovation by launching cars kitted out with self-levelling suspension that used a combination of hydraulic fluid and air, a unibody construction and swivelling headlights that provided a higher degree of vision.

Citroen was also the first to use modern disc brakes to a mass production car, way back in 1955.

Citroen Hatchbacks

Citroen’s hatchback range starts from their diminutive model, the C1. This car is on sale in Britain for prices starting from a little over $11,600 onwards. Citroen offers multiple engine choices for this car. Customers can either have the 1.0 liter or the 1.2 liter motors, which deliver 68 and 80 hp, respectively.

For a sum of a little less than $15,000, Citroen will sell you the new C3. This car has been designed to appeal to the youth and those who prefer a more outdoorsy look for their car. Apart from details painted in contrasting colors, the Citroen C3 also has the AirBump panels that are a series of plastic bumps that are filled with air to protect the car against minor scrapes and scuffs. A taller version of the car called the C3 Picasso, with extra interior space is also available.

Priced at just under the $24,000 mark is the Citroen C4, a car that is loaded with tech and very comfortable to be in. For a premium, the company also has a larger version of the car, called the C4 Picasso, on sale.

Citroen Crossovers

Citroen’s crossovers are basically grown-up versions of their hatchbacks, the first of them being the C3 Aircross. While the C3 hatchback is already a butch looking car, its Aircross version builds upon that image even more. Contrasting body panels, stylish alloys and faux skid plates are all part of this car, which comes at a price of approximately $18,000.

Another vehicle in this segment is the Citroen C4 Cactus, a vehicle that also makes use of the AirBump panels. The car’s shape is as interesting as its name and it features kit such as roof rails and beefy alloys that enable it to take on a bit of light off-roading.

Citroen MPVs

Citroen used their C4 hatchback as a base to build the Grand C4 Picasso. This MPV is not that much longer than a regular C4 Picasso at 4.6 metres in length but, it has significantly more space on the inside. This vehicle is designed to be spacious, but the engineers have made it in such a way that it remains easy to drive around and handle on crowded city roads.

Unlike a typical MPV though, the Grand C4 Picasso is a very aesthetic looking vehicle, despite the fact it can seat 7 people in relative comfort. Buyers looking for that extra space for both occupants and luggage can choose either the Citroen Berlingo Multispace or the Citroen SpaceTourer vans.

Citroen Electric Cars

The smallest car that Citroen makes is their C-Zero electric car. With a range of 93 miles, the Citroen C-Zero is engineered in such a way that the amount of power it uses drops to zero when the car comes to a standstill. This means that valuable electricity is not wasted when sitting in a traffic jam.

The company also makes an electric off-roading compact vehicle called the E-Mehari. The vehicle is designed to be a fun to drive, peppy car that has an open roof to give a beach buggy experience. Apart from this, the Citroen Berlingo also has an electric version, complete with sliding doors on the side and a capacious loading bay.

Apart from these standard vehicles, the Citroen product portfolio also includes the DS series of cars. DS is a sub-brand of Citroen that manufactures premium cars that includes the DS 3 and its cabriolet version, the DS 4, the DS 5 and the DS 7 Crossback. Initially, they were sold parallel to Citroen’s mainstream models but, since 2015, the company runs as a separate brand detached from Citroen.

Citroen Sales and Special Offers

Sales of Citroen vehicles in the European car markets have been noticeably improving. The company sold 58,240 units in the month of June 2017, which when compared to the 57,040 units sold in June last year, represents a climb of a little over 2%. The company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales figures also grew by 3.66% between the time periods of January-June 2016 and January-June 2017. Citroen vehicles have leasing options and financing plans that depend on the location of purchase.
