Ferrari Cars: 70 Years of Legendary Race Cars, from LaFerrari to California T

Ferrari is a name synonymous with two-seater road rockets that are masterpieces in design, innovation and engineering. The cars created by Ferrari over the decades have long been regarded by many as the finest examples of automotive engineering, like the Ferrari California T. However, even Ferrari has felt the need to adapt to changing times in the recent past, and a few years ago, they launched their first ever 4 seater hatchback, the FF.

The company has remained true to their pedigree and ethos for a long time, changing and modifying only what really needs to be changed or modified. For the most part, they have led the way in showing what cars are capable of and where the future of high performance motoring lies.

In the early 1960’s, Ferrari was approached by the Ford Motor Company for a possible buyout, but Ford was turned down as the terms dictated by Ford would have Ferrari’s founder, the legendary Enzo Ferrari, lose his grip on the Ferrari racing program.

A few years later in 1969, the company’s controlling rights were bought by Italian car maker Fiat.

Ferrari California T

Ferrari California T

The smallest car that Ferrari makes and the easiest way to get a membership into the prestigious Ferrari Owners’ Club is to buy the Ferrari California T, which comes with a base price tag of $206,473. This car, with its turbocharged engine and folding roof brought the joy of grand touring within close reach of a wider section of people than any Ferrari before it.

Ferrari GTC4 Lusso

If you want to take four people instead of the more usual two for a wild ride in your Ferrari, the company has on offer the GTC4 Lusso. This vehicle serves as a replacement for the Ferrari FF, the company’s first ever hatchback sportscar. Ferrari also makes a rear wheel drive only version of the car, again with a turbocharged engine, called the GTC4 Lusso T, and it made its global debut at the Paris Motor Show last year.

Ferrari 458 GTB and Ferrari 458 Spider

One of the best cars that Ferrari made in recent times was the 458 Italia. However, it was phased out recently and replaced with a vehicle that has everything that made the 458 great, and then some. We’re talking about the spectacular Ferrari 488 GTB, which is also on sale as a convertible, badged as the 488 Spider.

Ferrari 812 Superfast

Among other changes to their model range, the company also replaced their brilliant F12 Berlinetta with the interestingly named Ferrari 812 Superfast. A version of the F12 Berlinetta still exists in the form of the F12tdf, which is a specially made, lightweight variant of the car that pays homage to the Tour de France race, hence the name “tdf”. A limited edition run of only 799 units of the F12tdf will be produced.

LaFerrari Supercar

The flagship supercar of the prancing horse stable at the moment is the LaFerrari. This is the car that is carrying forward the torch-bearing mantle of the renowned Ferrari Enzo. The car is a technological powerhouse and uses gadgetry that current Formula 1 cars employ to win grand prix races.

Another version of the car, called the LaFerrari Aperta, has a removable roof and it has been worked on by the company’s engineers to make it even more aerodynamic than the standard LaFerrari. 209 units of the car were made and only 200 were put on sale. Customers were decided on invitation and all units of the cars were sold for prices exceeding an eye-popping USD 6 million!

Ferrari Special Offers

Ferrari provides a few options to lower the financial burden while purchasing one of their cars. You could either avail of conventional loans or balloon payments (pay a low down-payment first, then low instalments and finally a large payment at the end of the loan period). The company also has leasing plans where the durations vary from 13 to 60 months.

Ferrari Sales

A company like Ferrari does not focus hugely on sales volumes. In fact, they sell just a minimum number to preserve exclusivity for their clientele. In the whole of 2016, just over 8,000 units were sold across the globe, and US sales contributed around the ballpark of 2,000 units to that number. Despite buyers from China having skyrocketed, the North American market still remains one of the best for Ferrari.
