Although Isuzu Motors came into existence over 80 years ago in the year 1934, the seeds for the formation of the company were sown much earlier in 1916 when two Japanese firms collaborated to manufacture vehicles. This merger eventually resulted in the creation of the first ever passenger car that was produced in Japan, soon to be followed by a fast-selling truck.

The company went through another merger, rebranding and restructuring in the early and mid 1930s, and it took on the Isuzu name only in 1949. Over the years, Isuzu has tied up with companies such as Subaru, Mitsubishi and Nissan, before finally entering into partnership with General Motors (GM) in the early 1970s.

Isuzu Pick-Up Trucks

The bread and butter model of the Isuzu product portfolio is unquestionably the D-Max. The Isuzu D-Max pick-up range starts from the D-Max Utility trim level, which is the most basic form that you can purchase one of these vehicles in. Priced at just under GBP 16,500, the D-Max Utility is on sale as a 4×2 or a 4×4 model. Buyers can also specify what type of cab they require as Isuzu offers single, double and extended cabs on this model.

For a sum of GBP 21,500, you can choose between the D-Max Eiger and the D-Max Yukon. The Eiger trim is available as a double cab only, but the Yukon can be specified with a double cab or an extended cab. Both versions have all wheel drive, 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes, and are driven by 1.9 liter, 4 cylinder motors that deliver 162 bhp.

Further up the ladder is the D-Max Utah, which is priced at a notch above GBP 25,000. It is powered by the same 1.9L as its lower trim levels, but Isuzu has kitted it out much more and made it a better proposition for those who want a D-Max for personal use rather than only for utilitarian purposes. For your money, you get 18 inch alloys, a leather-trimmed interior, a generous helping of chrome and several modern features.

The Isuzu D-Max Blade is designed for people who want their truck to look tough. The vehicle comes with a lot of components that are finished in a gun metal grey shade and designed to give the vehicle an aggressive appearance. Prices for this model commence from GBP 28,000 onwards, but for an additional 3,500, Isuzu will sell you a heavy duty off-roading version of the Yukon and Utah trim levels. This version is called the D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 and it has a larger 2.5L engine and several upgraded parts that can handle the stresses involved in serious off-road driving.

Isuzu SUVs

In certain markets around the globe, Isuzu also sold a full size SUV in addition to its pick-up trucks. The vehicle, called the MU-7, has been recently replaced by the MU-X.

The MU-X stemmed from Isuzu’s collaboration with General Motors and is very closely related to the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Colorado SUVs. The Isuzu MU-X has a selection of engines that range between 1.9L and 3.0L for buyers to choose from.

Isuzu Commercial Vehicles

In addition to these passenger vehicles, Isuzu is also very well known for their family of light, medium, and heavy duty trucks that they sell on practically every continent on the planet. The company is also known for their diesel engines, both for automotive and industrial usage. Isuzu engines are used by several vehicle makers all over the world who do not produce engines of their own.

Isuzu Sales and Special Offers

The worldwide sales of Isuzu vehicles for the financial year that ended on March 31st this year was 616,350 units, which was a drop of 7.75% from the 668,138 vehicles that were sold in the preceding financial year.
