Land Rover offers prospective buyers of their Discovery two engine options to choose from, one each of gasoline and diesel, both with an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
You could have either a 3.0 liter, turbocharged V6 diesel motor that puts out 254 hp and 443 lb. ft. of torque; and the alternative is a 3.0 liter V6 gasoline engine that makes 340 hp. The Discovery has been subject to gruelling tests at temperatures ranging from -40°F to 120°F, being drenched in 19,000 gallons of water while being tilted at 45° and so on.

Despite its hulking mass, the Discovery can dispatch the 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds (gasoline) and 7.7 seconds (diesel), and hit an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. The vehicle also can wade through 35.4 inches of water; and it has some serious pulling power as its gasoline and diesel versions can tow 8,201 lb. and 7,716 lb. respectively.

On the safety front, the Discovery has a head-up display, driver condition monitor, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, multiple airbags, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, park assist with parallel/perpendicular parking and parking exit, surround view cameras, tow assist, traction control, and much more.
