The company came into existence nearly a century ago in the year 1920, soon after the end of the First World War. The headquarters of the company was set up in the now famous city of Hiroshima. After its inception, Mazda started out their operations by manufacturing machine tools. Towards the end of the 1920s, Mazda was almost bankrupt and had to be financially bailed out. Soon afterwards in 1931, Mazda moved into the automotive sector with the production of their first three-wheeled light duty open trucks, called the Mazda-go.

The least expensive Mazda is also the start of their sedan line-up. The vehicle in question is the Mazda 3, which has been pegged at a price point just north of $18,000. The car is available in three different trim levels – Sport, Touring and Grand Touring, and it gets its power from a 2.0 liter or a 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder motor. Interestingly, this car is also available as a 5-door hatchback with the same engine configurations for $19,345, making it the only hatchback in Mazda’s current U.S. model fleet.
The other vehicle that Mazda has on offer for American buyers is the brilliant Mazda 6. This sedan comes with only one engine option, which is a 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder motor that develops 184 hp. The car is so well set up and balanced that it is a joy to drive, and its interior is beautifully appointed as well, both in terms of comfort and features. Prices for the Mazda 6 commence from a little under the $22,000 mark.
Mazda SUVs
For a sum just short of $20,000, Mazda will sell you their most affordable crossover, the CX-3. This vehicle comes equipped with a 2.0 liter engine that produces 146 hp and, as an added benefit, the company has also provided the option of having it with all-wheel drive (AWD). Next up is the Mazda CX-5, which has a price range starting from $24,045. This vehicle is on sale in 4 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Select and Grand Touring. Under the hoods of all these variants are the same 2.5 liter engine that churns out 187 hp.
At the top of the company’s SUV ladder is the Mazda CX-9, which can be bought in one of its four trim levels of Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and Signature. All versions can be ordered with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive, and they are all powered by 2.5 liter, turbocharged engines that deliver 250 hp. Prices for the CX-9 start from $31,520 onwards.
Mazda Sportscars
For decades, the car that has made Mazda recognizable has been the MX-5 Miata. The company has stuck with its logic of making a light roadster with a small engine that can rocket around corners with incredible speed and agility. Mazda currently sells this car in both soft-top convertible ($ 24,915) and retractable hardtop ($31,555) versions. Both these vehicles derive their power from 2.0 liter motors that pump out 155 hp.
Mazda Sales and Offers
Mazda North America reported July sales of 27,089 vehicles in the United States, thereby representing a decrease of 3% versus sales during July 2016. However, the Mazda CX-5 SUV posted its fourth record-breaking sales month in a row, after having sold 11,402 units last month.
Depending on the model you intend to buy and the purchasing location, Mazda provides certain benefits such as leasing plans, cash back as part of their loyalty reward program and military bonus offers. The company also reimburses those who are disabled for up to $1,000 for the installation of adaptive driving aids or mobility assistance equipment in their cars.
