One of the most popular and well known automotive brands to come out of Japan is Mitsubishi. The company was, at a point of time recently, the sixth largest vehicle manufacturer in Japan. Mitsubishi became famous for their sporty cars that could be bought without a big budget. Many customers went one step further and began to tune Mitsubishi cars, since they could be easily modified, to make them high performance vehicles to be used in racing events like rallying and drifting.

Mitsubishi Motors was founded exactly a century ago in the year 1917. The company is now owned partially by the Mitsubishi Group, which is one of the largest conglomerates of Japan, and the Renault-Nissan alliance, which has a one-third stake in Mitsubishi. The company also had a truck and bus manufacturing division, now owned entirely by the German automotive giant Daimler.

Mitsubishi SUVs and Crossovers
Mitsubishi’s mid-size SUV is one of their most widely sold models, the Outlander. Built to ferry around 7 people in comfort, the Mitsubishi Outlander has two engine options on offer for buyers to select: either a 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder, 166 hp unit or a 3.0L V6 that produces 224 hp. Prices for this SUV commence from $23,495 onwards.
The company also produces a smaller crossover version of this vehicle called the Outlander Sport. This crossover is a 5 seater and can be purchased for a price that starts from just below $20,000. Powering it is either a 2.0 liter, 148 hp motor or the same 2.4 liter, 166 hp unit that powers the bigger Outlander SUV. The Outlander Sport can be ordered with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive.
Mitsubishi Hatchbacks
As of now, Mitsubishi sells only one hatchback in the U.S. market, the Mirage. Prices for this little car start from $13,395 and for that money, you get a good amount of kit. The company claims a USP of being the most fuel efficient non-hybrid gasoline car in the United States for the Mitsubishi Mirage, as it returns 37 mpg on city roads and 43 mpg on the highways.
Mitsubishi Sedans
The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback also has been used as a base to develop a sedan version, called the Mirage G4. The car is driven by a small 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder motor that puts out 78 hp. Although it may not be powerful, it does return a very respectable fuel economy figure of 35 mpg on city roads and 42 mpg on highways. Buying one of these compact sedans will cost you just under $14,000, but it still comes with a 10 year, 100,000 miles warranty.
For a price of $17,795, Mitsubishi will sell you the Lancer sedan. Buyers can choose to have their Lancer powered by either a 2.0L, 4 cylinder motor that produces 148 hp or a larger 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder engine that makes 168 hp.
However, the true icon of the bunch is unquestionably the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, which has been the choice of vehicle for keen automotive enthusiasts to modify and make some incredible machines. For a starting price of almost $34,500, you get a 2.0L, 4 cylinder engine that is both turbocharged and intercooled. It comes in two states of tune depending on the trim level, producing either 291 hp or 303 hp. The Evo, as it’s fondly called, has a wide selection of high performance kits available for owners to use to transform their cars into stellar examples of automotive engineering.
