The Suzuki Motor Corporation was founded in the Japanese city of Hamamatsu well over a century ago in the year 1909. The company initially started out by manufacturing looms for the burgeoning silk industry in Japan at the time. It was only 28 years later in 1937 that Suzuki rolled out their first automobile.

Even as far back as the mid 1950s, Suzuki was producing cars with technology such as independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and front wheel drive; which became common only almost 30 years later.

Suzuki Hatchbacks

Suzuki’s hatchbacks are the bread and butter of the company. Making small cars of both the practical and sporty varieties is what Suzuki is famous for. The company’s most affordable model is the Suzuki Celerio hatchback. The car has a little 1.0L gasoline motor under its hood that sends 67 hp to its front wheels via either a manual or an automatic gearbox. GBP 7,000 is what it costs to purchase the base model Celerio.

The more recent Suzuki Ignis is the company’s effort to target a larger number of younger customers. With prices starting from GBP 10,500 onwards, the Ignis is certainly a funky looking car that targets a different audience when compared to regular family hatchbacks. The Ignis is powered by the same engine as the Celerio but, the Ignis has the additional SHVS micro-hybrid option as well.

At just under GBP 11,000, you can buy what is probably the most famous car currently in Suzuki’s product portfolio, the fantastic little Suzuki Swift. Depending on the trim level, prospective buyers of the Swift can have either a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder, Boosterjet engine that has a turbocharger to boost the power output to 109 hp, or a 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine that delivers 89 hp. Both these engines can be ordered with Suzuki’s SHVS micro-hybrid package, for improved fuel economy.

Another Suzuki model that has been making waves across the globe is the new Baleno. Costing just under GBP 12,000, the Baleno discards Suzuki’s old styling philosophy for a totally fresh appearance – one that is quite decidedly European. The Suzuki Baleno also makes use of the company’s 1.0L Boosterjet, 109 hp motor. For an additional GBP 3,000, Suzuki will sell you the Baleno kitted out with their SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) micro-hybrid system.

Suzuki Crossovers

Suzuki’s crossover segment starts with one of their oldest models still on sale, the Jimny. Although some might think that the Jimny is a comical vehicle, its features such as the nifty 4×4 system, low range transfer case and its short overhangs mean that the Suzuki Jimny actually can tackle terrain that one would never expect it to traverse across. The Jimny is on sale for just under GBP 13,000.

At a price point of just under GBP 15,000 is the Suzuki Vitara. This vehicle was well received for its spacious interiors, good features list and peppy engines. Both gasoline and diesel motors are available on this vehicle, but both are 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder units that deliver 118 hp.

There is also a sportier version of this vehicle called the Vitara S, which is priced at GBP 22,249. Suzuki also has the new SX4 S-Cross, a crossover that is priced at just under GBP 16,500 onwards. The vehicle has a selection of engines that range in power output from 109 hp to 138 hp.

Suzuki Sales and Special Offers

Suzuki has several financing and leasing options on all their vehicles to ease the buying process. You can also pre-arrange to own the vehicle at the end of the agreement or return it.

The company sold 18,878 vehicles during the month of July 2017, which represented an increase of nearly 16% from the 16,276 units that drove out of the dealerships during the same month of 2016.
