Wiesmann GmbH was a German automobile manufacturer with factories in Dülmen, specializing in custom hand-built Roadsters and Coupes based on BMW powertrains. Wiesmann vehicles were known for their road grip and stability, and the company adopted the gecko logo because Wiesmann vehicles “stick to the road like geckos to a wall” The company was founded by the Wiesmann brothers in 1988 and was liquidated in May 2014.

Apart from their performance, the Wiesmann cars are also known for their stratospheric price. The first Wiesmann roadster hit the roads in 1993. By 2006, they were producing the Wiesmann MF 3 and MF 30 roadsters and the Wiesmann GT MF 4 coupe, hand crafting around 180 hand-built cars each year.
The company closed down in 2014, four years after their plans to enter the U.S. market failed due to poor exchange rates and the huge costs associated with modifications for making Wiesmann cars road-legal in the U.S.

Wiesmann MF3 Roadster
The Wiesmann MF 3 was an improved version of the MF 30, with a new 3246 cc BMW S54 powertrain. With this newfound power, the Wiesmann MF 3 crossed 0–60 mph in 5 seconds and reaching a maximum speed of 158 mph.
The MF3 came with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Also optional were 20 inch rims.
Wiesmann MF4 Coupe
“Our goal in the development of the Wiesmann MF4 was nothing more and nothing less than the perfect combination of design and dynamics. I think we have achieved that,” said Martin Wiesmann of the Wiesmann brothers.
True to his words, the rear wheel-drive Wiesmann MF4 could hit 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 182 mph, powered by the BMW N63 Turbocharged V8 coupled to a 6-speed sports automatic.
First produced in 2003, the MF4 roadster came with an aluminium chassis and a body made of fiber glass reinforced composite material.
Wiesmann MF5 Roadster
The Wiesmann MF5 Roadster hit the roads in 2009 and came with a GBP 189,500 price tag, with production restricted to just 55 cars.
Under the hood was a BMW 4,395 cc S63 twin-scroll twin turbocharged V8 engine mated to a 6-speed sports automatic gearbox with steering wheel paddle shifters.
This rear wheel drive roadster had aluminum double wishbone suspension with coil springs and anti roll bar in the front and aluminum double wishbone, trailing arm suspension with coil springs and anti roll bar in the rear.

Though Wiesmann ended sales in 2014, a few pre-owned Wiesmann Roadsters still show up from time to time in speciality dealerships, but with prices going up to GBP 200,000.
